(ledger-enquirer.com) — Columbus officials are reshaping the Columbus Airport's leadership, moving current director Amber Clark into a business-development role while hiring a new executive director to run daily operations. Backed by $1.5 million a year from the city, the airport aims to expand air service, cargo, hangars and even explore electric aircraft facilities, potentially changing travel and economic opportunities for local residents.
   

2. Columbus nonprofit awards $28,000 to local law enforcement, first responders pursuing further education (wrbl.com) — Local nonprofit Back Columbus Blue has awarded $28,000 in scholarships to 56 Columbus-area law enforcement officers and first responders to help them pursue further education. Ceremonies at the Columbus Police Department and Muscogee County Sheriff's Office highlighted how the Paul Vorhees – Ranger Joe's Scholarships also support families, holiday meals, equipment and other assistance for those serving the community.
   

3. Jury deliberations to begin in Columbus teen murder trial (wtvm.com) — Jury deliberations are beginning today in Columbus in the trial of three men accused in the shooting death of 16-year-old Joshua Huff, following two weeks of testimony. Prosecutors say there is ample evidence the defendants conspired in the hijacking and killing, while defense attorneys argue the state has not proven its case, leaving a local family and community awaiting the verdict.
   

4. GDOT seeks input on Williams Road widening project (wtvm.com) — Drivers in north Columbus may soon see big changes as GDOT plans to widen Williams Road between I-185 and Veterans Parkway, adding a center turn lane, sidewalks, a shared-use path and roundabouts. Project plans are available for the next 10 days at the Columbus Engineering Office, and residents can review details and submit comments online through Sept. 25.
   

5. Departments hold memorial stair climbs to honor firefighters lost on 9/11 (wtvm.com) — Columbus First Responders will host their second annual 9/11 memorial stair climb at Synovus Park this weekend, giving local residents a way to honor the 343 firefighters lost. Participants climb the equivalent of 110 stories, with proceeds supporting a firefighter-focused nonprofit, while similar events in LaGrange and at Auburn University broaden the regional remembrance.
