Sonya Halpern voted against SB5EX on June 23, 2026; bill to tie Toccoa homestead exemption to local sales tax fails (southfultontoday.com) — A proposed state bill that would have tied a new homestead exemption on City of Toccoa property taxes to a Local Homestead Option Sales Tax has failed in the Georgia Senate. The measure, authored by Sen. Bo Hatchett, lost 32–19, meaning Toccoa homeowners won't see this specific tax relief structure move forward for now.
