Dear Cubs Fans: Team Writes a Game 7 Excuse Note to Let You Miss Work or School

Employers and teachers who don't accept the note are probably St. Louis Cardinals fans.

CHICAGO, IL — The hours leading up to Wednesday night's historic Game 7 of the World Series have been a nerve-wrenching ordeal for Cubs Nation. How can anyone expect proper, self-respecting fans of the North Siders to go to work or attend class when their Cubbies are on the cusp of ending a 108-year title drought?

Thankfully, the Cubs organization is looking out for the people who have been supporting the team through good times, the bad times and the soul-crushingly miserable times. The team has composed an excuse note for fans to give to employers, teachers and other authority figures, explaining any absences Wednesday, Nov. 2.

The note was posted to the Cubs' official Twitter account Wednesday morning, but fans shouldn't expect the letter will get them off the hook for everything. Employers might still dock pay for missed hours, and professors might hand out F's for skipping a quiz. Especially if those bosses and instructors happen to root for the St. Louis Cardinals. Also, the note probably won't get you out of court appearances, speeding tickets and/or jury duty.

While an excuse note for Wednesday is a nice idea, Thursday is probably the day the Cubs faithful will want to skip when it comes to work and school. Fans will feel like staying in bed the entire day if Chicago loses to the Cleveland Indians.

And if the team is able to fly the "W" after Game 7, it will be Thanksgiving by the time the celebrations end.
