Year in Review: The 10 Most-Read Dedham Stories of 2016

2016 is almost in the books and needless to say, the year had some notable stories.

From a fatal stabbing, to new restaurants, and a surprising charge aimed at a school official, there were plenty of headlines in 2016.

Here are the top 10 stories from the year:

10. Chick-fil-A Planning Dedham Location

In September, the selectmen gave the restaurant the go ahead to serve chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. Building construction is expected to take six to eight months.

9. Six Displaced by Two-Alarm Fire on Bridge Street

In February, Boston and Dedham crews battled a two-alarm house fire on Bridge Street that left six people displaced.

8. Dedham Man Killed in West Roxbury Crash

In August, a 44-year-old died following a single-car crash near the entrance to the Stony Brook Reservation in West Roxbury.

7. New Restaurant Coming to Dedham Square

In May, it was announced that the Horse Thieves’ Tavern would open in the former home of Wardle's Pharmacy.

6. Unconfirmed UFO Sighting Reported in Dedham

In September, a report from the National UFO Reporting Center said there were some peculiar lights in the skies of Dedham.

5. Dedham Woman Charged with Possessing Fentanyl-Laced Marijuana

In August, a Dedham woman was arrested in Connecticut and charged with possession of narcotics.

4. Hooters Comes to Dedham

3. Dedham Middle School Principal Charged With OUI

In April, then-Dedham Middle School Principal Debra Gately was arrested in Weston for operating under the influence of liquor. Her case was later continued without a finding and she returned to the school district in a different role.

2. 13-Year-Old Killed by Train in Dedham

In February, a 13-year-old die near the Endicott Station after he was struck by a train.

1. Dedham Man Charged With Killing Father

In October, Alex Anderson was charged with stabbing his father to death in the home they shared.
