Michael K. Maurais, 54, a homeless man now located in Concord, was arrested at 10:40 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2015, on a simple assault charge from Nov. 4, 2015, on South Main Street. An officer in the Bed Bath and Beyond parking lot saw a man sleeping in a van and ran the plate on the vehicle. The registered owner, a woman, came back with an active warrant. The officer spoke to the man in the front seat who allegedly gave the name “Michael Thomas” but the name wasn’t found by dispatch. “I found this strange given that the man said he had non-driver identification but didn’t physically have it on him,” the officer alleged. “I suspected the man had given me a fake name.” The man also reportedly didn’t know his Social Security number, which the officer also found as strange. The man said he spent time in Massachusetts so they tried that database but didn’t have any luck. Later, dispatch told the officer the man’s name might be Michael Maurais, and that he had an active warrant. The officer questioned the man further and he allegedly admitted that his name was Maurais and was arrested. He’s due in court on Dec. 28.
