Maine Man, Troopers Fall Into Frozen Pond After Pursuit: NHSP
New Hampshire State Police roundup: Numerous DWI, drug arrests made on state highways.

CONCORD, NH — A Maine man was arrested last week on numerous charges after a multi-agency chase that started in Kittery and ended with the suspect – and state troopers – being rescued after falling into a semi-frozen pond, according to New Hampshire State Police. Jeremy Hovey Leclair, 39, of Kittery, ME, was arrested on Jan. 26, 2017, and charged with two counts of reckless conduct, two counts of disobeying an officer, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, willful interference with a police dog, and reckless operation. Other charges are also pending from other agencies and jurisdictions, according to state police.

Troopers from Troop A, according to a report, were tipped off at just before 8 p.m. that Kittery Police were attempting to stop a Chevrolet 2500 pickup after it allegedly pulled up alongside a police cruiser and attempted to force it off the road. After stopping, the pickup truck sped off, police alleged.

A short time later, according to Capt. Christopher Vetter of the NHSP, the vehicle was spotted driving – allegedly recklessly – from Route 236 in Eliot, ME, into New Hampshire, in Dover, but police were unable to stop it.
“It became evident that the driver of this vehicle was attempting to initiate a police pursuit by their aggressive driving,” Vetter alleged.

Police later learned that Leclair might be the driver and could have a child in the vehicle with him, according to the report.
At around 9:30 p.m., Somersworth Police caught up with the pickup on High Street and began tracking the vehicle, with state police assisting on the southbound side of Route 16. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle but Leclair allegedly “moved his vehicle into the right breakdown lane, stopped briefly, and then sped off.” The trooper continued to follow the vehicle “from a safe distance and maintained visual contact,” but later, Leclair allegedly used an emergency crossover on the highway and reversed his direction onto Route 16 northbound into Rochester, Vetter stated.

As the vehicle drove toward Milton, state and local police initiated a tire deflation device, deflating the front right tire. The vehicle continued on Route 16 to Route 75 and then, Route 125, according to state police, and eventually onto Townhouse Road where it reached a dead end.
Leclair allegedly exited his vehicle and fled running onto Milton Three Ponds but a K-9 unit was able to stop him. As troopers attempted to catch up to him, they fell through the ice, according to Vetter. Another trooper and a Farmington Police sergeant were able to pull all involved from the water.
A 4-year-old child, according to Vetter, was in the vehicle unharmed.
