Man With Rape, Incest Warrants Arrested By State Police: Roundup

CONCORD, NH — A traffic stop by New Hampshire State Police Friday led to two people being arrested on warrants including a man wanted on first-degree assault, rape, and incest charges. Around 8:30 a.m., a state trooper made a motor vehicle stop on Route 123 in Alstead. The two people in the car, Jennifer Ritchie, 37, of Alstead, and James Crawford, 32, also of Alstead, both had a number of active warrants.

Ritchie surrendered without incident, according to Lt. Michael Kokoski of Troop C, on operating after suspension, operating with suspended motor vehicle registration, hindering apprehension or prosecution, tampering with witnesses, and endangering welfare of a child charges. Crawford, however, is accused of fleeing the area on foot and then, running through a shallow river into woods nearby.

"Troopers set up a perimeter around the area and deployed a K-9 unit as well as the New Hampshire State Police Helicopter to assist in the search," said Kokoski. "Throughout the morning and into the early afternoon, police personnel searched the wooded areas of Alstead, East Alstead, and South Acworth looking for Mr. Crawford. Area schools in Alstead and Acworth were notified of the incident."

At just after 2:30 p.m., police were notified that someone matching Crawford's description was seen on property near Old Settler's Road in East Alstead. Troopers headed to the area and found Crawford. However, Crawford reportedly fled from them again but was quickly captured with the help of a K-9 unit. Crawford was charged with first-degree assault, two counts of incest, two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of tampering with witnesses, falsifying physical evidence, resisting arrest, and violation of probation charges.

Both Crawford and Ritchie were held without bail. The charges are the culmination of a lengthy investigation initiated in 2019, Kokoski added. State police were assisted by the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department as well as Alstead and Walpole police.

Justin Burnett, 40, of Kittery, Maine, was arrested on Dec. 30 on a suspension of vehicle registration charge at the Portsmouth traffic circle on I-95.

Edward Flaherty, 38, of Acton, ME, was arrested on a domestic violence-stalking charge on Route 16 North in Dover on Dec. 29.

Dasha Savelieva, 19, of Concord, was charged with transport alcohol by minor and unlawful possession/intoxication charges on Dec. 28. Also charged was Elizabeth Summerlin, 18, of Concord, on an unlawful possession/intoxication charge. They were charged on I-93 North in Plymouth.
