Second Concord Man Arrested In October 2024 Rollins Park Shooting Case

Follow-Up: Saige Laroche was arrested on accomplice robbery, other charges Wednesday after a drug deal gone bad in South End park last year.

CONCORD, NH — After a three-month investigation into a shooting in Rollins Park in Concord in October 2024, police have made a second arrest in the case, charging a South End teenager with three felonies.

Saige Laroche, 18, of Hope Avenue in Concord, was arrested on felony counts of accomplice to robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and falsifying physical evidence. He was held without bail on Wednesday, arraigned in Concord District Court on Thursday, and released on personal recognizance.

Around 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2024, several officers were sent to the park for multiple reports of shots fired inside the park, in either the area of the gazebo or the basketball courts. Moments later, a teenager called 911 and told them about the shooting incident.

“I just had to shoot at somebody,” police accused the teen of saying, according to an affidavit.

The caller told 911 he was not sure if he struck another person.

“He pulled a gun on me,” a detective stated the teen told 911.

The call with the teenager disconnected during the transfer. Four people called 911 about hearing the gunshots in the first few minutes after the incident. One described a white vehicle with a headlight that was not working, leaving the area toward McKee Square.

When officers arrived at the park, they were unable to find anyone but “saw evidence of a shooting” in the parking lot by the basketball court, including blood, shell casings, and a magazine, an affidavit said.

Police then went to the area of Pierce Street to speak to the teenager claiming to have shot at others, and he was detained. An officer accused him of muttering something to the effect of taking the other person’s firearm, the report said.

Three detectives spoke to a sergeant about the incident, and while doing so, police reception received a phone call from Makeeva Laroche, 22, also of Hope Avenue in Concord.

“I was involved in a shooting and it was a possible homicide, yeah,” Makeeva Laroche stated, according to a recording reported in an affidavit.

Makeeva Laroche spoke with dispatch, reported being shot in the forehead, and claimed a suspect took his firearm from him, the detective wrote.

Concord police and fire and rescue teams, along with New Hampshire State Police troopers, arrived at the 7-Eleven on South Main Street, where they found Makeeva Laroche inside a parked Chevrolet Malibu. During an interview, Makeeva Laroche reportedly stated he was with his brother, Saige Laroche, at the park, looking under the hood of his Volkswagen, when a white vehicle drove into the park. Makeeva Laroche was accused of stating the driver of the white vehicle began arguing with Saige Laroche and then took out a gun. Makeeva Laroche claimed he reached for his Glock 21, it got stuck, and then he was shot, the affidavit stated.

About three rounds were exchanged, and Makeeva Laroche fell backward, he reportedly stated. The driver of the white car was accused of standing over him and pointing his gun at Makeeva Laroche, saying he could kill him right now if he wanted to, the affidavit said. The driver in the white car then fled the scene, the report said.

Makeeva Laroche was taken to Concord Hospital, where a fragmented bullet was taken from his head, the detective wrote.

A woman who was in Makeeva Laroche’s car was also interviewed. She reportedly told police that she dropped him off on Fellows Street and then drove him later to 7-Eleven, where he called for help. More detectives arrived, and the vehicle and cell phones were seized while police requested search warrants.

Back in the South End, police examined the vehicle and found several bullet holes in the driver’s side door, the report said. The vehicle, a Chrysler, was seized and towed from the scene.

More people were interviewed, including one who “eventually told” a detective the driver of the white vehicle was going to the park to sell marijuana to a person named “Status,” who he had allegedly done deals with a few times before, an affidavit said. The interviewee claimed the teenager was “uneasy” about the deal due to “Status” asking to “meet up” in the woods for the deal, so he brought his gun for protection, the report said.

Makeeva Laroche was interviewed around 12:15 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2024, at Concord Hospital, and he reiterated the previous statement. When asked if he knew the other driver, Makeeva Laroche said he could not remember but said his brother knew him, the affidavit said. He continued to claim Saige Laroche and the other teenager “were bickering,” and then firearms were unholstered, the detective wrote. After speaking with the detectives about the firearms, Makeeva Laroche described the white vehicle and the driver.

When asked about a marijuana deal, Makeeva Laroche said the teenager smelled like marijuana, but he was not going to purchase it in the park, the affidavit stated. He was also accused of denying smoking marijuana and said he only drank alcohol. When prodded further, one detective asked if it was Saige Laroche who was going to meet the other man for the weed, and Makeeva Laroche “nodded” to the detective “in affirmation,” the report said. When asked about the deal, he assumed it was “probably for 30 bucks,” the detective wrote.

A few hours later, police went to Hope Avenue and saw a Volkswagen in the driveway of one of the homes. A “reddish-brown stain, consistent with blood,” was seen on the front passenger door, the report noted. Detectives spoke with a resident who was unaware of the shooting, although they did hear gunshots from the park earlier, the report said. Saige Laroche was questioned, and his cell phone was seized for a search warrant application, the report said.

The driver of the white vehicle was reinterviewed and admitted to going to the part to sell some marijuana and then accused Makeeva Laroche of “trying to snatch ‘it’,” the report said. He accused Makeeva Laroche of pulling out his gun, but it got caught on his pajamas and caused him to pull the entire holster out, the affidavit said. The teenager then pulled his gun out of his hoodie pocket and “let off a shot or two,” and then his thumb hit the safety, the report stated.

The report said during a back-and-forth between detectives and the teenager, they tried to clarify each person involved since the teenager did not appear to know their names. The teenager said he did not know who they were, but they had his number. The teenager also described the gun, the report said.

At one point in the interview, the teenager was accused of admitting he was there to sell them half a pound of marijuana. After the shooting and fleeing the area, he said he ditched the bag of marijuana in the area of Bow and South streets, the affidavit stated. A detective checked the area but was unable to find the marijuana. A search warrant was then filed against the teenager, and he was released.

A home in the area of Pierce Street was searched and an unloaded Ruger SR9 9 mm, with a 17-bullet capacity, was recovered from a couch, the detective said. Nine bullets were also recovered. Detectives also seized an iPhone and a large bag of suspected marijuana, the affidavit said. The report also said Ziploc bags, a grinder, labels, more bags of suspected marijuana, and rolling papers were found in the home.

Other witnesses from the area around the park were also questioned.

A shed on Fellows Street was searched on the afternoon of Oct. 8, 2024, and a blood-stained shirt, a rag, two 9 mm handguns — a Taurus G3C 9x19 and a SAR9 Mete, and plastic bags, which also had stains, were recovered, the report stated.

A detective wrote the single bullet in the Mete matched the bullets located in a magazine at the park.

On Oct. 9, 2024, a Wood Avenue resident submitted security video footage that indicated eight shots were fired — two that initiated the conflict and then, after a brief pause, six more returned fire gunshots, the detective wrote.

In Pembroke, at a tow lot, police searched the white Chrysler and ballistic damage to the vehicle and two 9 mm Luger casings located below a windshield wiper. The casings were consistent with the firearm found at the home.

Trajectory rods were used to visualize and estimate the ballistic damage angles.

Inside the Chrysler, police reported finding a Glock semiautomatic pistol in the front passenger compartment, which was consistent with Makeeva Laroche’s gun, an affidavit said.

Later that day, Saige Laroche was interviewed, and he was accused of reiterating a similar story as his brother and the woman in the car, the report said. The detective, though, wondered why Makeeva Laroche would not call for help after being shot for about 90 minutes.

“Yeah,” he was accused of replying, “obviously, I mean, like, at the time, he was probably stressed out … he didn’t know if he shot first or not but he saw a gun so he quick drawed … that’s the reason he shot.”

Saige Laroche denied wearing a mask and denied that Makeeva Laroche wore a mask, the report said. He also stated his brother did not know the teenager, the detective wrote.

Police also learned Makeeva Laroche may have gone to the Bow Mobil gas station on South Street right after the shooting, but there was nothing of “evidentiary value” on security videos. The Volkswagen, however, was seen at the scene for a short period.

A search warrant for Makeeva Laroche’s cell phone was granted on Oct. 15, 2024, and the detective reported finding “$ Status” on his Telegram account, which “outlined a marijuana deal.” He had the teenager’s number saved on his cell phone as “Sketchy Weed Guy,” the report said. After viewing back-and-forth text messages, $900 was agreed to for the half-pound marijuana deal, the detective wrote. Makeeva Laroche, the detective wrote, said he had cash in hand but preferred not to meet at the park. But the teenager countered, “Nahh, Rollins is chill. I do it all the time” around 8:10 p.m., the report said. Makeeva Laroche, though, replied he hated Rollins Park because “mad cops” had got him there before, the report said.

The affidavit also accused Makeeva Laroche of asking Saige Laroche to help him with the robbery and noted their text messages across several pages. Saige Laroche accused the teenager of robbing his other “homie,” named “RJ,” for “700 in product,” the report stated, and how they fled the scene after the shooting. Makeeva Laroche accused the teenager of shooting first and called his actions “self-defense on my end,” the report said.

They also exchanged text messages about the shooting, and whether Makeeva Laroche was OK, the affidavit said. Saige Laroche said it was scary and thought he was going to lose Makeeva Laroche “to a half pound,” the report said, adding he would have “kms” (killed myself) if Makeeva Laroche died.

“Saige said, ‘god gave you a second chance no cap,” the report stated.

Location history also placed Saige Laroche on Fellows Avenue, at the park, at the Mobil station, and then back to Hope Avenue.

Saige Laroche’s search history also revealed repeated visits to Concord NH Patch throughout the evening, the report stated. The detective wrote, “It is evident through Saige’s search history that he knew that an official investigation was underway regarding the shooting at Rollins Park.”

A search of the woman in the car with Makeeva Laroche found requests for “how to treat a bullet wound” as well as “Concord NH news,” the report stated.

On Oct. 25, 2024, Makeeva Laroche was arrested on 13 felony charges: two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, attempted first-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, attempted robbery with a firearm, conspiracy to commit robbery, felonious use of a firearm, criminal threatening with a firearm, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and falsifying physical evidence. His case was boundover from district court to Merrimack County Superior Court on Nov. 8, 2024. Makeeva Laroche has a dispositional conference hearing on Jan. 23.

Saige Laroche was released on personal recognizance, with restrictions, after being arraigned in Concord District Court Thursday.
