Cops: Man Falls Through Ice Trying to Rescue His Dog in Massapequa
Man and dog safely retrieved by police.

A man and dog were safely rescued after falling through the ice in Caroons Lake in Massapequa, according to Nassau County Police.
A 911 call about a man who fell through the ice sent officers rushing to Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The victim, a 68-year-old man, fell through the ice on the lake after trying to retrieve his dog, who had run 20 feet out onto the ice, police said.

A responding NCPD sergeant used a ladder as a crutch and carefully crossed the ice to pull the victim to safety, police said.
The victim was brought to a nearby hospital to be treated for hypothermia. The shivering dog was safely brought back off the ice.
