New York Ranks Among States With Biggest Drug Problems

WalletHub recently released a study ranking the states with the biggest drug problems.

A study recently released by WalletHub shows that New York ranks at number 13 among the states with the biggest drug problems in 2017.

Long Island is no exception to the issue -- last week a man was arrested after police executed a search warrant at his home and found more than $17,000 worth of drugs inside.

In addition, last month a total of 36 people, including a pregnant woman and a volunteer firefighter, were indicted for their involvement in one of the largest narcotics takedowns in Long Island history.

However, apparently New York's drug problem is nothing compared to the District of Columbia, which ranks in as the state with the biggest drug problem, according to Wallethub.

To create this list, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia into three overall categories: Drug Use and Addiction, Law Enforcement and Drug Health Issues & Rehab.

Those categories include a total of 15 relevant metrics, which was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the biggest drug problem.

They then calculated the total score for each state and the District, using the weighted average across all metrics.
