Elwood Students Participate in 'Ring of Fire' to Test Math Skills
The students' math skills were put to the test at hands-on learning stations including "Funny Faces" and "Organ Function Grinder."

Elwood Middle School Students recently got their hands dirty with mathematics.
The students participated in an interactive math museum called The Math Midway where they were able to put their math skills to the test at six different hands-on learning stations.

Stations included:
- The “Ring of Fire”: students observed the cross-section of a translucent solid.
- The “Roller Graphicoaster” station: students tested and adjusted the slope of a track to make the coaster even faster.
- “Funny Faces”: explained the complex mathematics incorporated in computer program for special effects photographs.
- “Organ Function Grinder”: allows students to create their own math functions.
Students visited the traveling math exhibit from the National Museum of Mathematics in New York City from May 13 through 15.
