ACROSS AMERICA — A moment of silence is in order as ice cream lovers across the country mourn the end of the Choco Taco, a revered frozen treat and summer snack fixture that will soon be gone for good.

After nearly 40 years, the ice cream snack tucked in a taco-shaped cone and dipped in chocolate has been discontinued and will soon disappear from ice cream trucks, swimming pool snack bars, and convenience store freezers, manufacturer Klondike announced on the company's website.

The Choco Taco in both one- and four-count packages was discontinued due to an "unprecedented spike in demand" for other Klondike products, the company said.

"(We) have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide," Klondike said in a statement. "A necessary but unfortunate part of this process is that we sometimes must discontinue products, even a beloved item like Choco Taco."

In its statement, Klondike, which is owned by Unilever, urged Choco Taco fans to try other available treats like cones, shakes, and sandwiches.

The discontinuation marks an abrupt shift from last week when Klondike claimed it was still selling the beloved treat in one-count packages.

Despite the sad news, fans of Choco Taco aren't having its demise.

"I... this cannot be real," Tim Hogan tweeted.

"Whoever decided to discontinue this timeless treat is literally the worst person on earth," one user posted on Instagram.

Another urged, "Don’t. Do. It."

Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, also wasn't having it. In fact, he wants to help keep the Choco Taco alive.

"Dear @Unilever — I'd like to buy the rights to your Choco Taco and keep it from melting away from future generations' childhoods," he tweeted.
