Facebook Outage Reported; Instagram, Threads Also Affected

In a statement on X, parent company Meta said it was aware of a technical issue impacting the ability of users to access apps.

A widespread Facebook outage was experienced Wednesday by users across the United States, according to Downdetector.com. The issue was also affecting apps including Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads.

In a statement posted on X shortly before 2 p.m. ET, Facebook parent company Meta said it was aware of "a technical issue" impacting some users’ ability to access its apps.

"We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience," the statement read.

Instagram and WhatsApp also posted statements on X acknowledging the outage.

“We know there’s a technical issue impacting some people’s ability to access Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and are sorry for any inconvenience.”

According to Downdetector.com, Instagram experienced a peak of nearly 70,000 reports of issues around 1 p.m. ET. Facebook reports reached more than 102,000 around the same time.
