Eagles quarterback Nick Foles drove his team 75 yards down the field. It was capped off by a controversial diving touchdown by tight end Zach Ertz.

Kicker Jake Elliot kicked a late field goal to put the Eagles up by eight points. Score: 41-33

Halftime

Justin Timberlake boogied on stage and while many in the Twitter universe complained they couldn't hear him that well — people say this just about every year — for the most part, his performance was well received. Among the songs he sang and danced to in his medley: "Suit & Tie," "Sexyback," "Man in the Mirror" and "Can't Stop The Feeling!"

2nd Quarter

New England was unable to capitalize, as kicker Stephen Gostkowski banged a short 26-yard field goal off the upright after a botched snap.

After a quick Eagles three-and-out, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady connected with wide receiver Brandin Cooks for a 23-yard gain. Cooks had to leave the game after getting blindsided as he was running by cornerback Malcom Jenkins.

Later in the quarter, tight end Zach Ertz and wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey made big catches to set the Eagles up on the 21-yard line. Runningback LeGarrette Blount scampered for a 21-yard touchdown against his former team. Score: 15-3

On the following drive, Patriots runningback Rex Burkhead caught a short pass and ran for 46 yards to set the Patriots up deep in Eagles territory. The Patriots' drive stalled out though, and the team settled for a 45-yard field goal. Score: 15-6

Late in the second quarter, Patriots defensive back Duron Harmon made a timely interception on a tipped ball off the hands of wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey to stop a driving Eagles offense.

The Patriots responded in kind. Brady connected with wide receiver Chris Hogan for a monster 43 yard gain. Running back James White followed that up with a gorgeous 26 yard touchdown run, breaking three tackles on his way to the end zone. Score: 15-12

The Eagles drove the length of the field before the end of the half to respond with a touchdown of their own, on a spectacular goal line trick play, no less. Score: 22-12

1st Quarter

The New England Patriots won the coin toss and chose to kick the ball off first to the Eagles. The Patriots will receive the kickoff to start the second half.

After a long drive, the Patriots stymied the Eagles near the goal line and forced Philadelphia to settle for a field goal to go up 3-0 midway through the first quarter.

The Patriots answered with a long drive and field goal of their own after Eagles defensive back Jalen Mills made a beautiful play in the end zone swatting the football away from Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Score: 3-3

LeGarrette Blount made what was at the time the play of the quarter, scampering for 36 yards to the outside. Not to be outdone, Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey made a full-extension catch over Patriots cornerback Courtney Rowe for a 34-yard touchdown. Score: 9-3

On the subsequent drive Danny Amendola snuck behind the Eagles' defensive backs for a monster 50-yard pass to set the Patriots up with great field position.

Pre-game

The Super Bowl got off to a rousing start, reportedly paying tribute to former New England Patriots tight end and convicted killer Aaron Hernandez before the game. Hernandez and other former players who died in 2017 were listed during a roll call of players.

The rapper Diddy is on the sideline in what appears to be a very warm brown fur coat. According to him and many other reports on Twitter, Eagles fans didn't forget their team was in the big game.

One Twitter user luckily took a shot of the wait for the men's room juxtaposed against the lack of a line at the women's room.

A massive “Fly Eagles Fly” chant broke out when Brian Westbrook, a former Philadelphia Eagles runningback who helped lead the team to it's last Super Bowl appearance, appeared on the big screen.

When the Eagles took the field, the crowd erupted in cheers. The Patriots, perhaps the most disliked team in football, did not get the same reception.

As the artist P!nk took the field, every player appeared to stand, bucking an anthem-kneeling trend started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. President Trump said this in a statement before the game:

"Though many of our Nation’s service members are unable to be home with family and friends to enjoy this evening’s American tradition, they are always in our thoughts and prayers. We owe these heroes the greatest respect for defending our liberty and our American way of life. Their sacrifice is stitched into each star and every stripe of our Star-Spangled Banner. We hold them in our hearts and thank them for our freedom as we proudly stand for the National Anthem."
