San Antonio Man Turns 108, Crediting 'Clean Living' For Longevity Plus Something Else

Spoiler alert: That 'something else" is: Lots of Budweiser and Heaven HIll, which is a Kentucky bourbon whiskey that he's long enjoyed.

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Heaven Hill and Budweiser, and lots of it.

That's what Eugene Ruf of San Antonio attributes to his long life, having recently celebrated his 108th birthday. Ruf was recently honored at the Brookdale Oakwell Senior Home.

"All I can say is good, clean living," Ruf told the news station when asked about the secret to his long life. In the next breath, he added: "Lots of Heaven Hill and Budweiser."

For the uninitiated, Heaven Hill is a brand of Kentucky bourbon whiskey.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Ruf served in World War II and the Korean War. He now spends his twilight years playing Skip-bo and leading a group of crossword puzzle aficionados.

Skip-Bo is a game consisting of a deck of 162 cards, twelve each of the numbers 1 through 12 and eighteen "Skip-Bo" wild cards which may be played as any number.

So make a mental note of that: Skip-Bo and Heaven Hill. And don't forget the Budweiser.
