Southern-Inspired Cafe Set to Open Next Month in Del Ray

Another new eatery will give a nod to Southern cooking when it opens soon — likely next month — in Del Ray.

Stomping Ground, at 2309 Mount Vernon Ave., will be open seven days a week and will serve up breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast menu will revolve around a Southern staple: Biscuits.

“It’s going to be a biscuit house in the morning,” Stomping Ground Chef Nicole Jones recently told Northern Virginia Magazine. The magazine notes that award-winning pastry chef Heather Roth will also be a part of the new restaurant.

Jones noted that some of the 10-12 house-made, buttermilk biscuit sandwiches will feature a classic bacon, egg and cheese; braised collard greens with black-eyed pea spread; fried chicken with a tahini-honey glaze; and a low-sugar housemade Nutella-like spread with a blood orange marmalade.

Stomping Ground is aiming for a March opening, according to an ad placed three days ago on craigslist.org, seeking to hire front-of-the-house employees:

“A new southern-inspired Del Ray neighborhood restaurant is seeking all FOH positions for dinner service. We focus on fresh, seasonal (and awesome tasting) ingredients in all aspects of our kitchen. We treat our staff well and only seek the most qualified. If you are passionate about food and hospitality we want to meet you!

We are looking to fill the following for dinner shifts only:

- Experienced, foodie servers
- Bartenders with wine and beer knowledge
- Hosts with great communication skills
- Food runners
