Come For Bright Yellow Walls, Stay For Tasty Vietnamese/Korean Cuisine

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Although Okonomi Asian Grill has been at its Fairfax Boulevard location for two years, owner Alex Kang jokes about it still being a "hole in the wall" and that it's main attraction is its "blindingly upbeat yellow walls."

In reality, the restaurant specializes in a unique blending of Vietnamese and Korean cuisines.

"I got to live and travel in Vietnam and work with some of the top chefs there, Kang told Patch. "Everything is made in-house. No other Vietnamese restaurant in the area — probably in the entire East Coast — picks and blends all of the herbs for you like they do in Vietnam."

Okonomi Asian Grill is one of the 24 restaurants and bars in Fairfax City that will be participating in the 2024 Restaurant Week, which runs from Feb. 26 through March 3.

"Restaurant Week is that nudge our residents get twice a year that says dining out is a community event. Trying new restaurants, or trying new offerings at favorite places, is something we can do together and we invite other people to join us too,” said Fairfax City Mayor, Catherine Read. “Dining in the city can be a culinary trip around the world without needing a passport.”

During Restaurant Week, Okonomi Asian Grill offering a two for one deal. Buy any two Hawaiian-ish or Lemongrass bowl and get a third for free.
