FAIRFAX CITY, VA — First responders from across the region, including from law enforcement agencies and fire and rescue departments, along with family, friends and members of the public, attended Saturday's funeral for a Fairfax City police officer who died from a sudden medical emergency on New Year's Eve. The line "well done good and faithful servant" was repeated multiple times at the funeral service of Sergeant George Moskowitz who died at the age of 57, WUSA9 reported
Speakers at Moskowitz's funeral, held at Fairfax Presbyterian Church, said he was a devoted and loving husband, father and fellow officer, according to WUSA9. Before joining the Fairfax City Police Department eight years ago, Moskowitz spent 25 years with the Fairfax County Police Department.
Moskowitz was on duty New Year's Eve when he died. City of Fairfax Police Chief Erin Schaible said a coworker walked into the locker room and found Moskowitz unresponsive. Emergency procedures were not able to save him, according to the report.

Although it has not been determined what caused Moskowitz's death, Harvard researchers have found sudden cardiac deaths account for up to 10 percent of all on-duty police officer deaths. "It's a stressful job and a stressful environment" for first responders, Sgt. Matthew Lasowitz with the City of Fairfax Police Department told WUSA9. "Overall, that could play a toll on our body and our minds,” Lasowitz said.
