Fairfax County Police urge residents to call 911 if they see a dog in a hot car. According to Virginia code, law enforcement officers, firefighters or animal control officers "who in good faith forcibly enters a motor vehicle in order to remove an unattended companion animal that is at risk of serious bodily injury or death" are not liable for property damage to the vehicle.
Please don't leave pets alone in your car, even for a few minutes! Rolling down the windows has little effect on the temperature inside a car, as it can reach 125 degrees in just 20 minutes on a 93-degree day.
