Driver Strikes Pole, Overturns Car In Groveton

The crash prompted Richmond Highway to be closed for nearly 12 hours.

GROVETON, VA—A driver is facing charges after striking a pole and flipping his car over in Groveton Friday, April 12.

The crash happened on northbound Richmond Highway at Collard Street. Fairfax County Police say the car went off the road and struck a pole before it overturned. The crash caused Richmond Highway to be closed from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 11:19 a.m. Saturday as crews repaired the pole.

The driver, a 24-year-old from Alexandria, was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and driving on a suspended license.
