Fair Haven House Fire Displaces 8 People

No one was injured in the fire caused by an electrical short Thursday evening.

FAIR HAVEN, VA — Eight people were displaced after a fire in the Fair Haven area Thursday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. No one was injured.

The fire occurred at a single-family home in the 2500 block of Byrd Lane. Units responded around 4:24 p.m. and found a fire mostly in the first floor walls. The fire was quickly put out. Five residents were home and evacuated after smelling smoke.

Investigators determined an electrical short caused the fire in a void space behind the wall of the utility closet. Damages were estimated to be $37,500. Smoke detectors activated as the residents were evacuating.
