Faulty Dryer Starts Fire In Greater Alexandria Home
Two Greater Alexandria residents lost their home after a malfunctioning dryer started a blaze.

GREATER ALEXANDRIA, VA—Two residents were forced out of their home by a fire Monday. The culprit? A dryer in the basement.
Around 12:43 p.m. Fairfax County and Alexandria firefighters responded to the townhouse fire in the 2500 block of Windbreak Drive in Hybla Valley. No smoke could be seen from outside the home, but firefighters quickly located and put out a fire in the basement. No one was injured.
Fire investigators say the blaze originated in the basement due to the malfunctioning dryer.

The residents were not home at the time, but a neighbor saw smoke coming out of the dryer vent and called 911. The two residents were displaced and have accepted Red Cross assistance. Damages are estimated at $20,000.
