Fire At Belle Haven Apartment Displaces 5 People, 2 Pets

No residents were injured after a fire broke out at a Belle Haven apartment building.

A fire that broke out in Belle Haven Monday afternoon resulted in no injuries, officials say. Five people and two pets were displaced but have declined Red Cross assistance.

Around 1:30 p.m., units from Fairfax County and Alexandria responded to the fire at an mixed-use apartment and commercial development in the 1800 block of Belle View Boulevard.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the three-story apartment building and located the fire in the attic. Due to the heavy fire, a second alarm was requested. Firefighters conducted a search of the building and extinguished the fire.

Fire investigators determined an electrical event involving a ceiling fan in the attic caused the blaze. Damages are estimated at $70,000.
