Police Chase Armed Carjacker in Alexandria Area (ICYMI)
Fairfax County Police arrested an armed carjacker after a chase in the Alexandria area Tuesday morning.
ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Police have arrested an armed carjacker Tuesday after a chase throughout the morning near several schools in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County.
Shortly after 6 a.m., the suspect approached a woman driving a Blue Nissan at the intersection of East Drive and Telegraph Road. The man pulled out a gun, threatened the woman and told her to get out of her car. The woman complied, and the suspect then fled in the car. The victim did not require medical attention.

Police located the suspect at the 5900 block of Edgehill Drive near Telegraph Road, but he fled. He struck a tree and four cars as he sped away, stopping at Edgehill Drive and leaving the car to run. The suspect was apprehended by police at North Kings Highway and Fairhaven Avenue.
John Holomon Russell, 23, was arrested and charged with carjacking, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony speed to elude, four counts of misdemeanor hit and run and driving on a suspended license.

The robbery was reported near Browne Academy and Cameron Run and Mount Eagle Elementary Schools. Browne Academy announced a two-hour delay during the search, while the two elementary schools went on "secure the building" status. The elementary schools returned to normal operating status when the suspect was apprehended.
