Resident Assaults Officer During Transport to Hospital: Police

Resident was being transported to hospital when he began banging his head on police cruiser window and attempted to slip out of restraints.

Police report that an officer was assaulted Friday night by a local resident who was being transported to a local hospital.

The assault by the resident took place in a police cruiser traveling on Richmond Highway and Buckman Road, Friday at about 7:05 p.m., police said.

An officer was transporting a resident in need of services to a local hospital on a Temporary Detention Order (TDO), according to police. The man became aggressive and began to harm himself by banging his head on the window of the cruiser, police said.

After refusing the officer’s verbal commands to stop, the subject then attempted to slip out of his restraints, police said. The officer pulled over on the side of the road and attempted to restrain the subject to prevent him from further harming himself, according to FCPD.

At this point, an off-duty officer driving on Richmond Highway saw the on-duty officer on the side of the road and pulled over to assist him, police said. The subject assaulted the on-duty officer but together, both officers were able to reapply restraints successfully to the subject, according to police. There were no charges placed on the subject and he was transported to a local hospital, police said. The officer was not injured during the incident.
