UPDATE: Police Make Arrest in Monday's Fatal Shooting

Alexandria man has been charged with second-degree murder, according to Fairfax County Police.

After further investigation following the shooting this morning, Fairfax County Police detectives arrested Freddy A. Bonilla Rodriguez, 39, of Alexandria, police said.

He has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond, police said.

The victim has been identified, but is not yet being released pending notifications to the next of kin, police said.

Fairfax County detectives are investigating a death that occurred Monday in the 3800 block Havenwood Place (see map below) in the Alexandria area, according to a news release from police.

Officers responded to the home at around 1:30 a.m. for a report of an assault, according to police. When police arrive, officers discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body, they said.

Another resident of the home, an adult male located at the scene, is believed to be responsible for the shooting, according to police. The gun believed to be involved was recovered, police said.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is continuing, according to FCPD. This case appears to be isolated to the residence, and the two men involved were known to each other.

There is no apparent threat to the safety of the public. The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Police did not say if anyone has been arrested and have not released the identity of the man who was killed.
