Teen Shot in the Back Sunday in Walmart Parking Lot: Police

A teenager was shot in the back Sunday afternoon in the Walmart parking lot at 7910 Richmond Highway, according to police.

Officers responded Sunday at 5:23 p.m. to the Walmart parking lot for the report of a robbery and shooting. The initial investigation suggests that at least some of the parties involved knew each and that they had a pre-arranged meeting, police said, adding that the purpose of the meeting remained unclear.

At some point during the meeting, one subject produced a handgun and announced a robbery, police said. Involved parties fled in all directions. One 19-year-old male was shot in the back, according to police.

He was flown to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues.
