Back to school: Hampton Roads students and teachers begin a new school year (pilotonline.com) — Virginia Beach students headed back to class Monday under a new School Board policy that keeps school-issued laptops out of pre-K through first grade classrooms and homes. Local leaders, including the superintendent and School Board chair, greeted families at Kempsville Meadows Elementary, while other Hampton Roads divisions marked the first day with similar welcomes and an emphasis on supporting teachers and young learners.
   

2. CNN Will Air Farm Aid 2026 Live on September 26 with Willie Nelson, Neil Young (wcsx.com) — Farm Aid 2026 is coming to Virginia Beach's Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater on September 26, with CNN broadcasting the four-hour show live. Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and more will perform to raise money for family farmers, and locals can still buy tickets or stream the concert from home.
   

3. King William County cancels contract for Flock cameras after vandalism, theft (pilotonline.com) — King William County has pulled its Flock license plate reader cameras after vandalism incidents and concerns over the $40,000 renewal cost, even though they helped track a missing Hopewell teen's vehicle and a stolen truck to Virginia Beach. The sheriff says the system aided several cases but wasn't worth the expense, while civil liberties groups continue warning about privacy and data-sharing risks.
   

4. Countertop Clash: Suffolk family at impasse with contractor over work not done (wavy.com) — A Suffolk family says a long-delayed countertop replacement turned into a legal and personal standoff with Westcoast Kitchen/Onestop Kitchen, a contractor operating from a Jensen Drive address in Virginia Beach. After missed installation dates, online complaints, and alleged threats, the couple obtained a restraining order while the company now proposes finishing the job through a third-party installer under stricter conditions.
