The victim, a 23-year-old mother and student, who had recently moved to Oakland from Dallas, was found beaten to death in 2014.
The incident occurred in the 3000 block of East 15th Street around 8:15 a.m.
The fire was reported in the 9500 block of B Street.
The family in March also filed a medical malpractice suit against the hospital in Alameda County Superior Court.
