Dawn S. Russo, 39, of Hevey Street in Manchester, was arrested at 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 2, for felony theft by unauthorized taking (due to two prior convictions). According to a court affidavit, on April 10, 2015, police were sent to the Walmart on Loudon Road for a report of a woman walking out of the store with a 55-inc Vizio television set. Loss prevention alleged that the woman put the television in a cart and walked out of the store. She then placed the television in a Lincoln Town Car that was parked in the fire lane and left. The television was valued at $648. The employee was able to get the vanity plate on the vehicle, which was traced back to a Manchester man. Four days later, the Manchester man spoke with police and reportedly told the investigating officer that he “allowed a female friend, Dawn Russo, to use his vehicle” on that day, according to the court affidavit. The man alleged that she suffered from drug addiction and had just gotten out of the women’s prison where she spent a year for theft. The man had an alibi – he was working – and gave the officer the public locations where he lent her the vehicle. Later, the officer learned that the Walmart employee shared a surveillance photo with a member of Russo’s family and allegedly confirmed that it was her that stole the television, according to the report. The officer attempted to call Russo several times but she allegedly never returned the calls. According to the report, Russo was found guilty of theft in April 2013 and theft by deception in October 2012. An affidavit was issued on April 21, 2015, and she was later arrested by Manchester Police on Oct. 2, and held in the Valley Street Jail on $500 cash bail.
