Four Arrested at State Police Sobriety Checkpoint
More than 130 vehicles were screened; the checkpoint was held in Newport on Route 11/103 this weekend.

Four more individuals were arrested as a report of a sobriety checkpoint put together by the New Hampshire State Police and local law enforcement.
In the latest checkpoint, held during the hours of 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, through 3 a.m. on Aug. 29, state troopers from Troop C in Keene along officers of the Newport Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Route 11/103 in the town of Newport.
The checkpoint was authorized by an order of the Sullivan County Superior Court and conducted under guidelines promulgated by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.

A total of 131 vehicles and operators were screened and four arrests were made:
- Kristopher Maley, 24, of Newport, for driving while intoxicated.
- Eric Nicolay, 38, of Claremont, for operating after suspension, subsequent offense.
- Justis Jones, 20, of Newport, for possession of a controlled drug.
- One other operator was arrested for driving while intoxicated but was released to a sober adult as their blood alcohol content was under the legal limit.

“The New Hampshire State Police, Colonel Robert Quinn and the Newport Police Chief James Burroughs as well as the officers of their departments consider the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers to be a top priority,” according to Sgt. Jayson Almstrom. “They will continue to collaborate and utilize sobriety checkpoints and other means to deter, detect and remove impaired drivers from New Hampshire’s roadways.”
