Richard Laflower, 51, of Elm Street in Laconia was arrested at 10:21 p.m. on May 22 on a single felony count of forgery and theft by deception, less than $1,000, charges. Around 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 20, 2021, police were sent to O’Reilly Auto Parts on Manchester Street to take a fraud report. The store manager told police a man purchased $450 worth of items with a check from a Derry company called “Structured Maintenance Truck and Equipment Maint” on Pentacoast Drive in Derry. Upon further review, including online searches and contact with Derry police, the street and business did not exist. The check bounced on Dec. 20, 2021. The general manager of the stores told police they learned from other stores the items purchased were returned for cash, an affidavit said. Another employee was interviewed, but they did not recall much about the customer beyond him being a white man. According to the report, Laflower’s name, a license number, and a telephone number were on the back of the check. The report said the manager searched the name and found he had “a lengthy customer history at various locations.” The telephone number was for Granite State Painting of Laconia, and online information mentioned Laflower being connected to the company, the report stated. A detective also reached out to Worker’s Credit Union, the bank's name on the check, and found the check and account information on the check were fake. On Feb. 3, the general manager of the stores returned an inventory of items returned at stores on Fisherville Road, and at the Goffstown and Merrimack stores. The affidavit said the general manager also told police Laflower “attempted to pass a bad check” at the Merrimack location. Later, the detective also spoke with the manager of the Fisherville Road store, who reported a bad check was also rejected there. The officer attempted to reach out “several” times to Laflower, but he never called back, the officer wrote. She also reported, while speaking with other police departments in New Hampshire, that there were several open arrest and pending arrest warrants against him. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Feb. 28.
