CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire State Police were sent to Northumberland on April 15, 2017, to assist with a report that a man with a “high caliber” handgun was threatening to do harm to himself. An off-duty police officer from the town was first on the scene while another officer from Lancaster also came to the town to assist, according to a report. As the first trooper arrived, they attempted to make contact with the man who was in a wooded area behind his home.
“The Northumberland officer was in the process of clearing any residents and pedestrians from the area,” according to Sgt. Dennis Wade of Troop F. “Both officers and the troopers were able to make contact with the subject on a set of steps behind his home. As they made contact, he came up the steps carrying a small handgun.”
The man reportedly didn’t say anything and headed straight for his residence as all involved tried to attempt to get him to stay outside. A perimeter was implemented around the home while more troopers and conservation officers from the NH Fish & Game Dept. also arrived to help.
