RI Trucker Falls Asleep, Crashes In Construction Zone: New Hampshire State Police Roundup
Fatal crash investigated in Troy; mom accused of driving 112 mph — without kids buckled in seatbelts; blotters from around the state.

CONCORD, NH — A trucker from Rhode Island escaped serious injury early Saturday morning after crashing in a construction zone on the Everett Turnpike in Merrimack.
Around 2:15 a.m., troopers, along with Merrimack fire and rescue teams, were sent to a crash scene about a mile from the Bedford toll plaza. When they arrived, they found a Ross Express tractor-trailer had crashed in the zone, Tyler Dumont, a public information officer for the department, said. The driver, Kenneth Irizarry, 43, of Providence, RI, reportedly fell asleep while driving.
“Irizarry drifted into the right breakdown lane, struck sand barrels, and then drove over temporary jersey barriers where the truck became stuck,” Dumont said. “He was transported to a Nashua hospital to be treated for minor injuries.”

The right lane of the southbound side of the turnpike was closed for around three hours while crews from Northeast Truck Services, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, and Audley Construction removed the truck and reset the barrier.

Mom Drove 112 MPH With Kids Unbuckled In SUV: Report
A woman from Manchester will be in Candia District Court in June to face charges she was driving 112 mph while her children were in an SUV without seatbelts on.
Around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, a state trooper on Route 101 saw a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.
“At one point,” Dumont said, “the SUV was observed at 112 mph.”
The trooper stopped the driver, Shirley Stanley, 23, of Manchester, and found two children, ages 1 and 4, inside the vehicle but not secured by child restraints or seatbelts, a report stated. She was arrested and charged with reckless operation, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of violating required child passenger restraints, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, unsafe lane change, following too closely, and speeding. Stanley was processed and released on personal recognizance. She is due in court on June 10.
State Police believe others may have seen Stanley’s driving before she was pulled over, Dumont said. Anyone who witnessed the SUV should contact Trooper Jacob Benjamin at Jacob.A.Benjamin@dos.nh.gov or State Police dispatch at 603-223-4381.
