Exeter, New Hampshire – This is Attorney David Mirsky reporting from the frontlines of the 2020 Presidential race with my end of the year round-up of the strongest candidates for President in 2020. I have not included the Republicans here but may write about former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld or President Donald Trump if Trump is not removed from office by the U.S. Congress and if they both come to Exeter. Or will I?

I am continuing with my “list on the refrigerator” procedure. You can see the list currently in evidence on our refrigerator at home in the picture appearing above. My list is not the same as those you will see offered in the latest opinion polls, but there are some similarities. I do not use the mathematically indefensible polling methods that generally appear in the media. Rather, this is strictly “Mirsky News”.

I have one major gripe about the election process thus far: The Democratic National Committee’s ever-changing and always dubious cut-off procedure for determining who will qualify for the nationally televised debates. Clearly, it’s okay with the DNC if you have recently suffered a heart attack at a campaign event (Bernie Sanders), but if you are new and brilliant and unencumbered by support from the traditional political establishement (i.e., Andrew Yang, Cory Booker, Julian Castro, Deval Patrick), the DNC may exclude you. The Democratic Party insiders apparently learned nothing from 2016. Remember, it was the content of the Russian-hacked DNC emails, which showed an internal DNC bias against Bernie Sanders, that actually hurt the eventual Democratic Nominee.

DEMOCRATS

1. Andrew Yang, entrepreneur and futurist, successful businessman and creator of jobs.

I just met Andrew Yang last night at his campaign event at the Exeter Inn, here in Exeter, New Hampshire. Andrew Yang gets this Number One position because he has a wide and deep following among all types of New Hampshire Voters. People are drawn to Andrew Yang because he has his own ideas, and those ideas are focused on helping America transition from this Early Digital Age into the future. Andrew Yang is about making sure people have enough money to pay their bills (he has a guaranteed $1000 a month income plan), and making sure that people have the opportunity to grow and prosper in their lives in the real world in which we live, which is a world full of change and technological transformation. Andrew Yang has his eye on all of this change and wants to make sure that real people do not get hurt by it.

2. Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. Elizabeth Warren has a strong organization here in New Hampshire, and has engaged important people to help her, people who understand how to get out the vote. That will be crucial. The best thing about Elizabeth Warren, aside from her stunning intellectual capabilities, is her passion to help people who have been left behind by our country’s overemphasis on providing welfare and subsidies to large corporations, banks, and securities firms. You can trust that Elizabeth Warren will not sell you out to big business.

3. Cory Booker, U.S. Senator from New Jersey, former Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, and star of the Netflix documentary “Street Fight”. I have written about the greatness of Cory Booker on Exeter Patch, and I refer you to my article, “Why I am Supporting Cory Booker for President”, which gives you just a beginning indication. Those who have seen and heard Cory Booker in person here in New Hampshire know that he deserves to be on the Democrats’ TV Debate stage, front and center. You can see Cory Booker at Exeter High School (1 Blue Hawk Drive) on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at 7:00 P.M.

4. Amy Klobuchar, U.S. Senator from Minnesota, former prosecutor in Minnesota (Hennepin County Attorney). Amy Klobuchar gives the Democratic Party a broader array of support, bringing in the Midwest and a more moderate viewpoint. Amy Klobuchar has strong support among important public leaders in New Hampshire, and I would say that the reason she has this support is that she is effective in working for the interests of the People, and she is trustworthy. Also, she is tough.

5. Tom Steyer, billionaire and advocate for addressing Climate Change world wide and for impeaching Donald Trump. Tom Steyer has accomplished a lot already in this presidential campaign cycle: Most people know who he is and what he stands for. The two greatest strengths of Tom Steyer: 1) he has tons of money to spend on campaign TV commercials; and 2) he is a no-nonsense, low-key individual whose manner and demeanor encourage you to listen to what he has to say.

6. Bernie Sanders, U.S. Senator from Vermont. Bernie Sanders has strong support, a strong, committed organization. Bernie Sanders is an extraordinarily strong and focused individual. So you can’t count him out. Political star @AOC (U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York) has endorsed him. Many young people adore him. Young people must vote.

7. Joe Biden, former U.S. Vice President, former U.S. Senator from Delaware, American hero. I don’t need to tell you anything about Joe Biden, and he doesn’t need my help. Joe Biden is likely to win the 2020 Presidential Election in November.

8. Pete Buttigieg, Mayor of South Bend Indiana. There are many in the news media, and many serious political activists here in New Hampshire, who believe that “Mayor Pete” has what it takes to win the Democratic Nomination and to defeat Donald Trump in the fall. He is getting his full chance to prove that he can do this, as he has the money and the media support needed to win.

9. Tulsi Gabbard, U.S. Representative from Hawaii. You know Tulsi Gabbard: she has a strong, commanding presence, and she is the first female combat veteran to run for President of the United States. Tulsi Gabbard would be a very young U.S. President as she is 38 years old. Tulsi Gabbard does not support Democratic efforts to impeach current U.S. President Donald Trump. Generally speaking, she has unique views and a bipartisan approach. I have placed Tulsi Gabbard on this list because she has a strong local presence here in New Hampshire (a lot of lawn signs), and can attract non-Democrats to vote for her in the New Hampshire Primary because she is not a mainstream Democrat.

10. Deval Patrick, former Governor of Massachusetts. Although he was late to enter the presidential race, Deval Patrick is really quite well known and well-liked in New Hampshire as he was Governor of Massachusetts for two terms and is seen as a tough, smart, political moderate. Deval Patrick is exceptionally knowledgeable in economic matters and has been a constant, reliable presence on the political scene. Deval Patrick is good for the Democratic Party: eloquent, strong-willed, and a positive force for economic growth and for justice.

Happy New Year Everyone!!! Don't forget to register to vote, and don't forget to vote!
