Peter's Clam Bar Celebrates 75 Years
Opened in the summer of 1940, the Island Park restaurant celebrates its big birthday Thursday.

Peter’s Clam Bar is celebrating a big birthday this week.
The South Shore staple in Island Park is celebrating 75 years with a 21st century feast at 1940s prices.
A special party is set for 12 p.m. Thursday where the restaurant will offer original menu prices, including 75-cent cups of chowder with a dozen clams for $1. Community groups and residents will go back in time as swing music blares and people in 1940s attire stroll through the celebration.

Island Park Mayor Michael McGinty, County Executive Ed Mangano, and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray will be on hand to help congratulate Peter’s Clam Bar.
Peter’s reopened in June 2014, nearly two years after it was severely damaged in Hurricane Sandy. The clam bar has been a go-to seafood spot for generations and sometimes hosts clam eating contests for charity.
