A Triumphant Trump Celebrates Victory in Washington

Donald Trump delivered his last rally before the second term of his presidency at Capital One Arena Sunday, promising a historic first 100 days to a crowd of 20,000 supporters who braved snow, sleet and rain to see him in Washington, D.C.

With a Kid Rock concert to kick it off, and a Village People performance to conclude it, the rally was a party to remember.

Supporters came from across the country to attend the rally, waiting on the barricaded sidewalks, suffering harsh winter weather starting early in the morning.

“It is such a blessing to me, just something that wasn’t even on my radar,” said Lori Mendoza, an attendee from Chicago who had been treated to an inauguration trip by her friend. “I’m grateful. I’m going to stand out here as long as we need to, but I’m told that we may not even make it in there.”

One attendee from Fort Worth, Texas told The Daily Signal, “It’s cold, wet, miserable, windy. I mean, we’re just kind of embracing the suck out here, trying to show our support for our future president … We’ve been out here since about 7:30 this morning.”

When Trump took the podium, he treated his supporters to one last speech full of campaign rhetoric and pride in victory.

“Our incoming administration has achieved all of this in three months without being president,” said Trump in celebration of the ceasefire deal reached in the Israel-Hamas war.

“We’ve achieved more without being president than they’ve achieved in four years with being president.”

Visibly emotional, Trump also meditated on the historical meaning of his victory.

“And someday 30 years from now, 40 years from now, 50 years from now, some of these young people are going to say ‘I remember Donald Trump, he did a good job. He sent us on his way, he sent us, he gave us a path.’”

In his celebration, the president-elect vowed an aggressive push to fulfill his campaign promises in the first days of the administration.

“The American people have given us their trust, and in return we’re going to give them the best first day, the biggest first week and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in American history,” said Trump.

“You’re going to see something tomorrow. You’re going to see executive orders that are going to make you extremely happy. Lots of them, lots of them,” he told the crowd, adding, “By the time the sun sets tomorrow evening, the invasion of our borders will have come to a halt and all the illegal border trespassers will, in some form or another, be on their way back home.”

Throughout the speech, Trump embraced both the humor and the willingness to forge alliances with other popular personalities that characterized his 2024 reelection campaign.

The president-elect invited billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk onto the stage to a thunderous applause from the arena.

When Musk had finished speaking, Trump quipped, “His son’s name is X! He’s the only guy who can get away with the name X.”

To conclude the victory rally, Trump invited The Village People on stage to perform “YMCA,” his signature song. The president-elect indulged the crowd with his signature dance moves, which have become viral in recent months.

Sunday’s concert marked the end of an era, as Trump reflected on three hard-fought campaigns and promised to fulfill the promises he made when he first came down the escalator at Trump Tower in 2015.
