Three companies announce layoffs

Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act with the state earlier this month, signaling its upcoming layoff of 247 employees in Massachusetts. The WARN was first filed on Wednesday, March 25, and layoffs are slated to begin on July 1.

The Sam’s Club Fulfillment Center, owned and operated by Walmart in Worcester, is expected to close, a company spokesperson wrote in a statement to Patch. The company also has plans to lay off 90 employees by May 29, 2026.

Clover Fast Food to lay off 182 Massachusetts employees based in Cambridge. The layoffs are slated to go into effect on Friday, May 29.

Trader Joe's expanding with another Mass. store

Reading will get another Trader Joe's grocery store at the Crossing at Walkers Brook at 34 Walkers Brook Drive.

The town said it will open sometime this year.

These Mass. bars are among the best in North America

Hecate Bar and The Wig Shop came in as some of the best 100 bars in the region, according to 50 Best's North America's 50 Best Bars 2026 list. The annual, globally recognized list ranks top-tier venues across the continent.
