Boston Police Officer Charged With Manslaughter After Fatal Shooting: Report
The officer shot and killed a carjacking suspect in Roxbury last week.
BOSTON, MA — A Boston police officer was arrested Thursday morning in connection with a fatal shooting of a carjacking suspect that occurred last week, according to a report from NBC 10 Boston.
Nicholas O’Malley, 33, will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on manslaughter charges in the aftermath of an incident on Wednesday, March 11. Stephenson King, 39, of Dorchester, was shot and killed by police on Tremont Street in Linwood Square. The police report details that O’Maley drew his gun and said "Bro, I'm gonna (expletive) shoot you” followed by King putting the vehicle in reverse and hitting a police cruiser. King then maneuvered his vehicle forward, reverse, and forward again in an attempt to escape police. At the moment when the vehicle began to move forward the last time, O’Malley reportedly fired three shots at King. Two of them struck him. King was soon rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
O’Malley told investigators that he felt King was trying to run both him and his fellow officer on the scene Todd Ho, however the investigation results stated that body camera footage and other evidence found that not to be true. An eyewitness who observed the incident also said that neither officer was in the path of the vehicle as it drove away.
