Michael Storm Hamilton, 37, a homeless man now located in Concord, was arrested at 2:58 p.m. on Sept. 1 on felony possession of a controlled drug-fentanyl and receiving stolen property, less than $1,000, charges. An officer was sent to Walmart on Loudon Road for a theft witnessed by a detective who was at the store at the time. The suspect fled but a description was shared with other officers in the field — a man dressed in black with a baseball cap and backpack. The man headed to the wooded area behind Harbor Freight. Officers found Hamilton, who matched the suspect's description, an affidavit said, but no backpack. He was accused of saying he threw it in a nearby swamp. Hamilton matched the video surveillance from the store, and he was wearing new steel-toed shoes that matched ones stolen during the incident, a report said. He was arrested, and during a search, police accused him of possessing a small baggie of an unknown tan powdery substance believed to be fentanyl. Another controlled drug act: acts prohibited charge was added, according to Merrimack County Superior Court records.

At around 9 p.m. on July 20, an officer was sent to Hannaford on Fort Eddy Road for a theft report involving a man in a Seattle Seahawks hat, “Moxie” T-shirt, and black backpack stealing about $90 worth of batteries and soda. The man was approached by a Hannaford employee and fled the scene. The officer viewed security video but did not recognize the man. Another officer, however, did and said it was Shelton, based on “past interactions/arrests that she has had with Austin,” an affidavit said. The officer viewed a prior booking photo and confirmed it was Shelton, the report said. A warrant was issued on Aug. 15.
