Man Gets 6+ Years After Stealing Vehicles, Leading Cops On Chase

Report: Shane Collins pleaded guilty earlier this week for his "one-man crime wave" that ran through Salem, led to his arrest in a swamp.

BRENTWOOD, NH — A Derry man was sentenced to prison on Nov. 28, 2017, on vehicle theft charges and a high-speed chase through numerous communities earlier this year, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader. Shane Collins, 42, was sentenced to six to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty in Rockingham County Superior Court to the charges. He was arrested in April at the end of a multi-agency manhunt through numerous communities after a vehicle was reported stolen in Massachusetts. The vehicle was then spotted in Salem and a chase ensued. Collins drove the pickup truck into Chester and then dumped it.

A New Hampshire State Police K-9 unit as well as numerous officers searched the area and found him in Derry. Collins, at the time of the arrest, had active warrants out of Fremont, Epsom, and Raymond.

Collins is facing more charges in Merrimack County and Hillsborough County-North courts. He was indicted recently for theft and stolen property charges – jewelry and an SUV – in Hooksett and for alleged thefts in Concord earlier this year involving vehicles and jewelry. Collins was also indicted for allegedly stealing an SUV and crashing it in Manchester in March 2017.
