Juneteenth In DC To Be Marked With Rallies, Marches, Protests
The District of Columbia celebrates D.C. Emancipation Day every April 16 to commemorate the passage of The D.C. Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862, which freed 3,100 people in bondage. However, many District residents will join others across the country Friday in observance of Juneteenth.

Northam Announces Phase 3 Details, Outreach To Latino Population
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced guidelines Thursday for phase three of his Forward Virginia reopening plan. The governor said public health metrics are moving in a positive direction but has not committed to a date for Virginia to start phase three. As state officials continue to monitor Virginia's coronavirus data and surges in other states, the earliest date it could begin is Friday, June 26.

Barcroft 1-Day Coronavirus Testing Site Open To Public On Friday
Arlington County is hosting another one-day free testing site in an effort to stem the spread of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus. This is the second time the county has hosted such an event under the sponsorship of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Workhouse Arts Center Drive-In Movies Attract Large Numbers
The movies showing this weekend at the Workhouse Arts Center drive-in are sold out, but another two movie will be shown at the drive-in on Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27. Lightning Strike Caused Reston Shopping Center Fire
Fire investigators from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department determined that a lightning strike caused the June 11 fire at a Reston shopping center, according to a post on the department's blog.
Sheriff's Office Investigating Drowning Of NAACP President's Son
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the drowning of a 16-year-old on June 4 near the River Creek community. Fitz Thomas, son of Loudoun NAACP President Michelle Thomas, reportedly drowned at the confluence of Goose Creek and the Potomac River in Loudoun County.
51-Year McLean Business Makes Plea Amid Coronavirus Impact
A longtime business in McLean seeks support to avoid closing due to the coronavirus pandemic's financial impact. McLean Family Restaurant, a 51-year Kapetanakis family operation, made the plea to customers Wednesday on Facebook.
