Hidden Gems Of Connecticut
The latest Hidden Gem is the oldest house still standing in the southernmost part of Connecticut.

GREENWICH, CT — The latest Hidden Gem in Connecticut represents a journey back to a simpler era, ironically located in one of the busiest sections of the state in modern times.
It's the Thomas Lyon Homestead, located on U.S. Route 1 — known in historic and local circles as The Post Road — just steps from the New York line in the Byram section of Greenwich.
According to "Byram, Connecticut: An Historic Resources Inventory," European settlers began establishing trading posts along the Byram River in the early 1600s (legend has it Byram was named because the Native Americans would "buy rum" at them). Thomas Lyon Sr. (1621-1690) is the earliest settler mentioned in the recorded histories and legend has it that King Charles of England granted him 60 acres of land in 1640.

Lyon built the saltbox house between 1640 and 1700, making it possibly the oldest home still standing in Greenwich. It originally sat on the north side of the Post Road, according to the publication, but was moved to the side of Byram Hill when the Post Road was widened.
Visitors can park up the hill at Dorothy Hamill Rink.
