Brookfield 2019 Elections: Candidates, Polling Places, Hours

Here's what you need to know concerning the 2019 Brookfield local elections including the candidates, polling places, voting hours and more.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Voters will head to the polls Tuesday to vote in Brookfield's municipal election. The positions of first selectman, selectman, town clerk and seats on the Board of Education, Board of Finance, Planning Commission, Board of Assessment Appeals and zoning are all up for grabs.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes. You can find your poll location at the Secretary of the State website by inputting your information.

In Brookfield, Democratic First Selectman Steve Dunn is being challenged by Republican Mel Butow. Democrat Sue Slater is competing with Republican Harry Shaker for Selectman.

For the position of town clerk, Democrat Andrea DiStephan is seeking re-election against her Republican challenger David Frankel. Voters have choice between Democrat John Lucas and Republican Steve O'Reilly for treasurer.

Board of Finance

Brookfield residents may vote for two of the following candidates for a full-term on the Board of Finance: Democrats Ricky Ramos and Sean Hathorn; and Republicans Mark Mulvaney and Gregory Petriccione. Democrat Alan Walp is competing against Republican Brianna Ruocco for a two-year term on the Board.

Board of Education

Brookfield residents may vote for four of the following candidates for the Board of Education (but not more than two from the same party will be elected) . The choices are Democrat Debbie Brooks; unaffiliated candidates Logan Sullender, Amy Foster and Colette Sturm; and Republicans Paul R. Checco, Robert D. Belden, Michael Murphy and Joseph C. Beal.

Board of Assessment Appeals

Voters may choose between Democrat Julie Kerton and Republican Art Cresci for a full term on the Board of Assessment Appeals. Republican Jeff Bronn is running unopposed to fill a two-year vacancy on the Board.

Planning Commission

Brookfield residents may choose two of the following candidates for the Planning Commission: Democrats Jon Van Hise and Scott Dale; and Republicans George Blass and Renée Santiago.

Zoning Commission

Residents may vote to elect any two of the following candidates to the Zoning Commission. The Democrats are Frank Kwok and Mary Cappiello. The Republican Zoning Commission candidates are Gaspare Marturano and Chris Delia. Democrat Leslie Ruggiero is vying with Republican Geoffrey Hunton to fill a two-year vacancy on the Board.

Zoning Board of Appeals

For the Zoning Board of Appeals, Brookfield residents may vote for two of these four: Democrats Robert L. Marconi and Lisa Temple, and Republicans Gerald C. Giacobone and George Meyerle.

Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote.

Emergency application ballots are available for unforeseen circumstances within six days of the election.
