The fire department is still working to knock down the flames.
MEDFORD, MA — One person was transported to the hospital in the aftermath of a house fire that took place on Wednesday morning.
The two-alarm blaze broke out at approximately 6:45 a.m. at the two-family home on 212 Central Ave. Crews arrived on scene 15 minutes later to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from the roof and back of the residence, which sustained the most damage. The dark smoke could also be spotted from a long distance away, according to Medford Fire Department Deputy Chief Bill Young. Four residents inside the home reportedly escaped the fire, with one of them transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The Malden, Cambridge, and Somerville Fire Departments provided mutual aid and contributed to the extinguishing effort. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
