Sobriety Checkpoint Nets Three on Route 101

NHSP, Bedford Police arrest men from Alstead, Milford, and Manchester while checking nearly 500 vehicles.

BEDFORD, NH – The Bedford Police along with New Hampshire State Troopers held a sobriety checkpoint last night through this morning on Route 101 in Bedford.

The checkpoint was held between 9 a.m. on June 24, 2016, to 3 a.m. this morning.

Three men were arrested:

  • Robert Mele, 46, of Milford, was arrested for DWI and possession of a controlled drug.
  • Steven Gladysz, 46, of Manchester, was arrested for DWI.
  • Jared Warren, 30, of Alstead, was summoned for driving after suspension.

“A total of 479 vehicles and operators were screened,” according to a press statement from Sgt. S. Callinan of the NHSP.

The checkpoint was authorized by an order of the Hillsborough Superior Court and conducted under guidelines promulgated by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office.

Callinan added, “The New Hampshire State Police, Colonel Robert Quinn and Chief John Bryfonski of the Bedford Police Department consider the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers to be a top priority. They will continue to collaborate and utilize sobriety checkpoints and other means to deter, detect and remove impaired drivers from New Hampshire's roadways.”
