CONCORD, NH — During a four-day Interstate enforcement effort last week, New Hampshire State Police observed 170 violations and issued citations to nearly 200 drivers.

The effort ran from April 22 to April 25 and involved troopers assigned to the department’s special enforcement unit. Most of the efforts were focused on Interstate 93 north in Windham, Interstate 95 south in Greenland, Interstate 89 south in Sunapee, and Interstate 93 north in Salem, Michal Sventek, a public information officer for state police, said.

“Of the 170 violations,” he said, “63 drivers were observed traveling 90 mph or greater, and 3 drivers were observed driving recklessly by traveling greater than 100 mph.”

Sventek said state police reminded residents and visitors that the penalty for driving 86 mph or more is a fine of $434. A violation could also lead to a loss of license for a month. Driving 100 mph or greater carries a $620 fine and a 60-day loss of license. State police, he said, would be increasing patrols on state roadways as the weather warms up.

“Troopers will continue to work with their partners at the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety to conduct focused traffic enforcement efforts to reduce excessive speed, detect impaired driving, prevent serious crashes and ensure the safety of all residents and visitors to the Granite State,” Sventek said.
