Matthew Story, 37, a homeless man now located in Manchester, was arrested on theft by unauthorized taking, a felony due to two prior convictions, resisting arrest or detention, and false report to law enforcement charges. Officers were sent to the CVS on Hall Street for a report of a man stealing power pack charges and fleeing the store toward the railroad tracks. The officer looked around the area and found a suspect matching the description of the man who fled the store. When he spotted the officer, he began to walk away. “Hey, you, come here,” the officer requested as the man began to run, an affidavit said. A short time later, the man turned toward the officer with both his hands tucked into his waistband. The officer pulled out his handgun and ordered the man to show his hands, which he did, the report said. However, the suspect refused reported requests to get on his stomach in order to be handcuffed, the report said. Later, the man agreed to put his hands behind his back, and he was placed in handcuffs, the affidavit said. During questioning, Story was accused of giving a first name of “Christopher” and a birth date which were both incorrect. After talking with dispatch, they were able to identify the suspect as Matthew Story. Not far, the four boxes, two power packs and two Bluetooth headphone kits, valued at about $70, were found. When asked about them, Story said, “I can just bring them back,” the affidavit said. Since he had been previously convicted twice before, the theft charge was elevated to a felony.
