New Hampshire Man Arrested On Drunken Driving Charges After Crash: NHSP Roundup

CONCORD, NH — A man from Plymouth, Massachusetts, died after a crash in Ossipee on Tuesday, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Around 11 a.m., a vehicle traveling north on Route 16, around Pine River Pond Road, crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle driving in the southbound lane. The driver, Kevin P. Buote, 58, of Plymouth, MA, died at the scene, Amber Lagace, the public information officer for state police, said. A passenger was also taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

“The driver of the northbound vehicle was also transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation of injuries,” she said.

New Hampshire State Police was assisted at the scene by the Ossipee Police Department, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Center Ossipee Fire Department, Ossipee Corner Fire Department, Wakefield Ambulance, Wakefield Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

Lagace said the cause of the crash was under investigation.

Cops Track Driver 2 Miles After DWI Crash

A man from Ackworth was arrested on several charges on Saturday after a drunken driving crash in Unity.

Around 9:15 p.m., troopers were sent to Unity Springs Road for a report of a crash. The caller told dispatch a vehicle crashed into a tree and the driver fled, Lagace said.

When troopers and Newport police arrived, they found a Volkswagen Passat with heavy front-end damage but the driver was nowhere to be found.

“An investigation revealed that just prior to the crash, the suspect vehicle had passed another vehicle on a double yellow line during poor weather conditions, which directly resulted in the vehicle losing control and crashing,” she said. “Officers and troopers quickly located a set of footprints in the snow and followed them for approximately two miles until they ended in a wooded area on Gilman Pond Road in Unity.”

A man, later identified as James Brandt, 54, of Ackworth, was found but accused of refusing to cooperate with police or identify himself — “but eventually was identified as the operator of the vehicle involved,” Lagace said.

Brandt was charged with driving while intoxicated, conduct after an accident, reckless operation, and disobeying an officer. He was released on personal recognizance and is due in Newport District Court on Feb. 14.

Unity firefighters assisted state police.
