Medford Police Warn Against Phone Call Scam
The calls appear to be coming from the department itself.
MEDFORD, MA — The police department is warning the community against a phone call scam in which the perpetrator is pretending to be an officer.
The scammers are reportedly claiming to be from the department and are calling from the number 781-391-6404, which is the Medford police's business line. The department emphasized that the calls are not legitimate.
The caller is falsely identifying themselves as a Medford Police officer and telling people they have a warrant related to child sex crimes, then demanding payment. This is a scam," the department said in a statement. "The Medford Police Department will never call and demand payment over the phone for any reason."
